8 MCU Movies Better Than Avengers: Endgame
5. The Avengers (2012)
The Avengers was a culmination of Phase 1, and it was also the movie that would make or break the Marvel cinematic universe. Nothing like this had been done before, and no one was sure if it would work. Could Joss Whedon do the unthinkable and balance multiple superheroes, who had all had success (bar maybe hulk) in solo outings?
Thankfully he did it brilliantly by interweaving the characters so seamlessly that he made it look easy. Every hero gets their moments to shine, without it ever feeling forced or over-crowded. It also featured some of the best and funniest dialogue in superhero history, which set the tone for Avengers films going forward.
It's finale in New York city is also leagues better than the murky, messy finale in Endgame, which also has some rather sketchy CGI. The New York city scene manages to be both preposterous, and yet somehow still grounded, thanks to the characterisation of the heroes, out of their depth, trying to deal with the magnitude of the situation.
Ultimately, this was the movie that made us fall in love with the collective in the first place, and if it was never done this successfully, with so much confidence and humour, we would never have had an Endgame in the first place.
