3. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

With the brilliant cast, hilarious jokes and killer soundtrack all returning, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was essentially just a slightly less brilliant version of Guardians of the Galaxy which, all things considered, is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. That being said, it did commit one grave mistake.

Aside from its strangely beautiful aesthetic, the one thing that made the first Guardians of the Galaxy film stand out was how important it was to the MCU's overall endgame. The very existence of Gamora and Nebula brought with it the full-time arrival of Thanos (who, as fans of the franchise will know, plays a vital role in the MCU's narrative). This, in itself, allowed this seemingly standalone film to be more relevant to the overarching story than a lot of the franchise's more famous installments.

Guardians Vol. 2, however, fails to capitalise upon this and, instead, takes the story in a completely different direction, positioning itself as nothing more than a standalone sequel. Of course, it's a hoot and is certainly worthy of your time as it furthers the story of Peter Quill, but in regards to the MCU itself, it isn't all that important.
