8 MCU Movies You Can Totally Avoid Watching
2. Spider-Man: Homecoming
It's painful to put Spider-Man: Homecoming on this list for multiple reasons.
Not only was this the long-awaited MCU headliner that Marvel's web-slinger deserved, it's an admittedly brilliant offering that perfectly captures everything that makes Spider-Man the beloved character that he is. In addition, Michael Keaton's performance as Adrian Toomes a.k.a. The Vulture is nothing short of magnificent and, without a doubt, one of the best-developed villains in the ten-year history of the MCU.
In spite of all that, however, Spider-Man: Homecoming just isn't that important to the overall narrative. While it's true that it gives us an in-depth look into Peter Parker's double life as Spider-Man, as well as his relationship with mentor Tony Stark, the majority of this was already established during the character's debut in Captain America: Civil War, and is built upon further in later Avengers films.
With that in mind, a newbie MCU fan could just as easily get to know Spidey without watching Homecoming and, given that it doesn't offer anything in terms of the Infinity Stones saga, it would be a totally forgivable decision to do so. That being said, it's an awesome standalone outing that absolutely deserves to be seen.
