8 MCU Movies You Can Totally Avoid Watching

Marvel Studios decided to change things up with 2015's Ant-Man by producing a film that didn't follow all the conventions of a typical MCU outing. Sure, it introduced us to a brand new hero with Scott Lang's Ant-Man and had him face off against a relatively one-dimensional villain with the same abilities, but it was far from the typically triumphant good vs. evil blockbuster that audiences were used to.

The film's real appeal lay in the fact that it was essentially a heist movie centred on multiple good-natured convicts who were doing all the wrong things for the right reasons. This lent itself to the production's comedic tone incredibly well, complementing each of the unorthodox characters and letting audiences get to know them personally.

However, that very effort to distance Ant-Man from everything else within the MCU resulted in it being a heavily standalone feature that holds little importance to the story that the cinematic universe was telling. In fact, the only thing it contributes to the bigger picture is the introduction of Ant-Man, and even that is undercut by the fact that he's essentially reintroduced in Captain America: Civil War.
