8 More Movie Fan Theories Confirmed By The Creators

7. The Alien & Blade Runner Universes Are Connected

The Theory: The Alien and Blade Runner franchises are of course both creations of director Ridley Scott, and some fans are convinced the two series are more intimately linked than merely having the same veteran filmmaker's involvement.

The thematic and stylistic similarities are countless: the bleak vision of a future ruled by tyrannical corporations, a mutual emphasis on the advancement of A.I., and the use of suspiciously similar technologies. The most damning evidence, however, is the presence of the "purge" readout on computer monitors visible in both movies.

Some might see that as merely a cute Easter egg, but many accept it as proof perfect that these worlds are connected.

The Confirmation: Though Ridley Scott has been guilty of getting high off his own supply for years and giving wildly contradictory answers about many aspects of Alien and Blade Runner lore, he did state on the commentary for Blade Runner that he envisioned Alien's crew stopping off in Blade Runner's dystopian Los Angeles in-between jobs.

Of course, Alien is set almost 100 years after Blade Runner, so there was never any possibility of Deckard (Harrison Ford) crossing paths with the crew of the Nostromo, but even so, it's nice for fans to know these stories are operating within the same world.

Don't ever expect it to be formally confirmed on screen - especially with both Alien: Covenant and Blade Runner 2049 tanking at the box office - but Scott's word is undeniably God.
