8 More Movie Sequels With Visual Effects Inexcusably Worse Than The Original

3. Anaconda 3: Offspring

While the original Anaconda film (and its sequel, Hunt for the Blood Orchid) does feature some subpar CG effects at times, it also contains plenty of rather gruesome practical work, including scenes of people being swallowed whole by the titular snake.

These practical effects are important because you can clearly see the creature interacting with the actors, and on top of improving their performances by giving them something scarily real to act against, this sells the peril and terror of the situation more than a digital anaconda ever could.

What's more, the filmmakers knew that their CGI just wouldn't be up to scratch, and so, they took steps to mask it, like making these shots quick and their edits fast, or setting any CGI-heavy scenes at night. But by the time Anaconda 3: Offspring rolled around, everyone involved had just stopped caring.

Here, the actors are being chased around in broad daylight by what appears to be a giant glob of shiny pixels - or is that meant to be the anaconda? To be fair, the filmmakers were clearly aiming more for Sharknado than Jaws, but the main attraction still looks like absolute trash, and because the crew on the first two movies actually put some thought into how best to utilise their low budget, the lack of effort on display in Anaconda 3 is inexcusable.
