1. Mufasa (The Lion King)
For many 90s babies Mufasa was the first time we had to really deal with death in this sort of capacity. All audiences grew fond of this wise and powerful leader of a great pride of lions. We loved him and we adored his parenting techniques, but he was taken from us too soon - leaving only the cries of Simba to carry us.
He had always competed with Scar, his evil brother, over who was the rightful king. So when Scar had a chance to make him disappear with no evidence left behind, he took it without a moments hesitation.
A stampede runs through a canyon below as Mufasa tries to climb free, Scar digs his claws deep into his brothers paws and utters “Long live the King” before throwing him to the metaphorical wolves. His fall is emotionally on par with that of Dumbledore.
Possibly the most heartbreaking moment in all of Disney history is when Simba attempts to wake his father, trying to mask the fact that he died and passing it off as him sleeping. Begging him to wake up, telling him they need to go home. It truly is one of the most tear jerking moments in all of film history.
We will always remember the rightful king. You truly deserve the number one spot.
