This one feels more like speculation than rumour, but it's still been said that we're going to meet the female version of Thor at the end of Thor: Ragnarok. In the comics, the woman under the mask is Jane Foster, but with Natalie Portman reportedly not all that interested in reprising the role after essentially being forced back for The Dark World, chances are Kevin Feige won't be able to convince her to suit up here! However, when you take into account everything else mentioned throughout this feature - whether it's the destruction of Mjolnir, the introduction of Valkyrie, or Thor being imprisoned - all of the signs do start pointing to someone else stepping forward to take over the mantle at least for a time. While the rumour doing the rounds only points to the female Thor showing up, I'd place my money on Valkyrie being the one to take over. Even if she ends up handing Mjolnir back to Thor in Infinity War, it would be a very big deal for Marvel to pass the mantle to a woman for a time, and would generate the kind of excitement and positive buzz that the studio likes. With Chris Hemsworth's contract nearing its end, providing that Valkyrie is a hit with fans, we could just be looking at the future of the Thor franchise if this does indeed end up happening.
