8 Most Underrated James Bond Films

The many bad reviews of this one usually point to one thing: Dr Christmas Jones (Denise Richards). Look, Christmas Jones was a terrible Bond Girl and Richards' gave one of the franchise's worst-ever performances as her, but she's just one element of the film. One bad supporting character does not ruin an entire film - she only shows up halfway through, after all.

The World is Not Enough deserves credit for just how much it gets right outside of that character. It provides a great Bond film experience - it's got jaw-dropping, truly Bond-worthy action sequences, excellent characters and a delightfully mad, epic vibe - but the film goes further than that.

It's also got one of the franchise's most interesting and twisty plots, an unforgettably brilliant lead villain, a well-judged tone that mixes grit and escapism and even a heart-warming send-off for franchise icon Desmond Llewelyn. It really went above and beyond the call of duty and never feels 'by-the-numbers' in the slightest, while Brosnan is a superb James Bond once again.

Basically, 'underrated' doesn't even cover it. Though it's a bit long and the script occasionally sags, The World is Not Enough is sorely deserving of a critical re-evaluation.

In fact, the whole Brosnan era is under-appreciated. It's unfairly dismissed as one great film followed by three disappointing ones when really, it's three very successful Bond instalments and one (very) disappointing flick at the end.
