8 Movie Franchises That Continued Long After Their “Final” Chapter

5. The Final Destination

Friday the 13th The Final Chapter
New Line Cinema

Any sequel to a movie called Final Destination is setting itself up for snarky reviews: “Guess it wasn’t so final after all!” etc. The series was meant to finish off with part four, which even called itself The Final Destination to underline this point.

The movie went on to make all of the monies – despite the terrible reviews - so what’s a responsible studio to do? Immediately make another one, of course. To be fair Final Destination 5 was a vast improvement on the previous entry, featuring creative set-pieces and one hell of a twist ending.

For now, it looks like part five actually could be the final Final Destination; it was a box office disappointment and there are no further sequels in development.
