8 Movie Franchises That Desperately Need Saving (And How To Save Them)

1. Tell Us The Answers - Alien/Prometheus

Prometheus I'm not somebody who needs to be told all the answers in order to enjoy a movie - I like ambiguity as much as the next person, but there's a difference between ambiguity that genuinely serves the story and ambiguity that is used as a placeholder for not knowing something. The Alien franchise, or Prometheus, has ended up in the second category, presumably because it was written by Damon Lindelof, who found himself battling similar complaints for years with Lost. Prometheus 2 looks to be a movie that we'll legitimately going to get to see one day, and there's one way to ensure that it doesn't meet the same divided reception that the first movie in this secondary Alien franchise did: tell us the answers. Give us the answers to the questions proposed in the first movie at some point in this one, and not only do you end up crafting something that holds up on its own, but you have a chance at redeeming the original. To Ridley Scott and whoever ends up writing this flick, I say this: don't start making Prometheus 2 until you've approach every aspect from the first movie with careful intelligence. Please. Have all the answers written down somewhere, and the storyline all thought out and coherent. Don't have the answers? Keep working until you do. And then make the movie. Make the movie when it's all figured out. But no more ambiguity. It's not fair of the people who come to the cinema expecting logic. Oh, and don't let Lindelof anywhere near the set.
