2. The Mandarin Is Real - All Hail The King

The Mandarin twist; three little words that are divisive within the Marvel fanbase to this day. The reveal in Iron Man 3 that the character was really a drunken actor was seen by some as a clever and funny reinvention of an outdated villain. Others felt it was a horrible insult to an iconic character, and fans of the comic.

Marvel obviously heard those complaints, since they commissioned a short film exploring what happened to hapless actor Trevor Slattery. All Hail The King finds him enjoying his infamy in jail and giving an interview about his time playing The Mandarin. Things takes a dark turn when he discovers his interviewer is a member of the Ten Rings, and hes breaking Trevor out so the real Mandarin can deal with him.

Iron Man 3 director Shane Black recently admitted All Hail The King was Marvels apology to the fans who hated the twist, and hes still bemused by the hate it brings out. Time will tell if the real Mandarin will actually appear in the MCU, but if he does it feels a very long way off.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
