8 Movies From 2016 That Deserve A Second Chance

7. X-Men: Apocalypse

Described by Entertainment Weekly as "a confused kitchen sink mess", X-Men Apocalypse has some serious issues: nobody’s aged very much since the Cuban missile crisis, Magneto has managed to disappear into the ether despite upstaging no less than Richard Nixon in the last movie and for all the razzle dazzle effects, the big finale still feels a tad perfunctory.

It’s still fun, though, and wisely gives Quicksilver (Evan Peters) more screen time. The producers also had enough sense to bring back Bryan Singer, who once again prevents the franchise from slipping back to crushing lows of The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. If Apocalypse is merely solid rather than spectacular, that's not much of a crime.

With four X-Men pictures under his belt, nobody has a better feel for this material than Singer and he delivers another honorable sequel movie here. After nearly two decades, this level of quality control is an achievement in itself.
