8 Movies These Directors Need To Make
1. Darren Aronofsky - Death Note
Although anime/manga is still largely considered a niche interest, it's getting harder and harder for general audiences to keep their heads out of it, which is why there's so much live-action potential in them.
Death Note tells the story of Light Yagami, a teenager who finds himself in possession of the titular death note, giving him the ability to kill anyone whose name he writes in it. He soon sets out to cleanse the world of crime and is gifted the name Kira, bringing him head to head with a brilliant detective called L.
The series already has live-action credentials thanks to two movies made in Japan and the infamous 2017 Netflix adaptation. This failed attempt to bring the story to life proved why the wrong director can damn a project. Adam Wingard is a very talented filmmaker but was the wrong choice for the director's chair here. But, if there's one person who could make it work, it's the mind behind Requiem for a Dream, Mother!, Black Swan, and more.
Darren Aronofsky's work has always been complex, tense and creepy, which works so well for this property. There's no doubt his striking visuals could make the world of death memorable, and his ability to create character dynamics and flawless performances would make the leading cat and mouse game between L and Light enthralling.
