8 Reasons Batman V Superman Is The Most Culturally Significant Movie Of 2016

1. It Is Still Batman V Superman

When it comes down to it thought, Batman V Superman has had such an impact by simply being Batman V Superman. This is the film Warner Bros. have been obsessed with making for the better part of two decades, trying to get a version off the ground at various points throughout the naughties, and, while there's not much explicit comic grounding, it's not hard to see why.

Dawn Of Justice sees the two biggest superheroes - the original two to boot - sharing the screen and going head-to-head at the same time. That's pop culture history right there, so even without all the other factors, it was a guaranteed event.

The movie's original screenwriter, David Goyer, was mocked relentlessly for his statement years ago that pitting the pair against each other was where you go when all other options are exhausted, and while his and Chris Terrio's effort would seem to prove him right creatively, simply doing The Dark Knight Returns or jumping straight to World's Finest just wouldn't have the same hook. Batman V Superman is the most culturally significant film of 2016 simply because it was never not going to be.

Do you think Batman V Superman is the most important film of 2016? Or is there something else? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments.
