8 Reasons Ben Affleck Should Retire From Batman
1. For His Own Sake
Despite what has been said here, Ben Affleck is an incredibly talented guy. He's a great actor and an even better director. Hell, he came into this franchise fresh off of directing and starring in Argo, a film that won Best Picture. Which, though it may be easy to forget now, was the culmination of a long-and-winding road to redemption that Affleck had been trekking for years.
He clawed his own way out of the multiple failures that befell his career in the mid-'00s and started directing his own films. After successes like Gone Baby Gone and The Town earning widespread acclaim, Argo was the film that put him right back on top of Tinsel Town and cemented his credibility as a true auteur.
Then, of course, he threw it all away.
Even his non-DC films have suffered ever since he has taken on the role. His acting in The Accountant wasn't anything to write home about but where the real evidence of the toll this had taken on his personal career was in Live By Night.
It was a film that Affleck had been attempting to write and direct for years, which was finally released in late 2016. What was pitched as his triumphant return to directing was instead a bona fide box office and critical bomb. All of this to say that Ben is clearly not at his creative best when he's in DCEU films, nor is he happy partaking in them and their respective backlashes.
Leave the role behind, Ben. If for nothing else, do it yourself.
