8 Reasons Ben Affleck Should Retire From Batman
2. Other Actors Actually Care
Batman is not just some gig. It's not just a paycheck and its certainly not just some guy in tights and a cape. The role of Batman is one of the most prestigious roles our generation has to offer. It is, essentially, our Hamlet. It has been played by fantastic actors across generations who have been able to dive into the tragedy and humanity at the core of his character and deliver truly iconic performances.
It has also been played by Val Kilmer, but I digress.
Great actors have been begging for this part for years. It inspires true passion in the hearts of many A-listers who would love to take a crack at it, which is exactly why it is just not fair for a clearly bored and tired Ben Affleck to cling to the part. Performers such as Gyllenhaal or Hamm are masterclass actors who are chomping at the bit to play this part. They are inspired and ready to go, just as Affleck once was.
Perhaps Affleck has simply been overexposed to the part and has failed to cherish the experience amidst the near-constant backlashes but that's hardly an excuse. Fans, creators, actors, they deeply and passionately care about Batman. And to have someone in the role who has made it painfully obvious through his actions that he does not is to fail the character and everything he stands for.
