8 Reasons Marvel's Spider-Man Might Be A Total Let Down

6. Sony Has Final Say

While Spider-Man may now be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's vital to note that the rights to the character are still owned by Sony Pictures. The deal that the two studios has reached is historic, but there's a massive difference between how this works and what happened when Daredevil returned to Marvel back in 2012. A desperate Sony (who sunk far too much into The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in the hope that it would earn upwards of $1 billion) may be happy to listen to Marvel's advice and essentially let them take creative control of the franchise, but they ultimately have the final say on everything, and there's a very good chance the whole thing could be f***ed up as a result. Bear in mind that this deal is still a business one too, and between Marvel wanting Spider-Man to boost interest in their Phase 3 movies and Sony's demands to have characters from the MCU show up in Spidey's 2017 outing, conflicts could very easily arise which damage both worlds. The biggest plus in this whole deal is that Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are nowhere to be seen. Had they been involved in any way, this wouldn't have been anywhere as exciting, but Sony's involvement is still a concern. After all, if you read those Sony Hack emails, you'll no doubt be well aware of just how clueless they are in regards to the best way to handle Spider-Man on the big screen.
