3. Disney Forcing Star Wars Into Marvel Cinematic Universe Territory

Sure, it worked for Marvel when they decided to create an ever-expanding cinematic universe - but nine movies later and it's becoming increasingly apparent as to just how difficult it is to contain such a universe as you begin to pile on movie after movie. The latest flick in the MCU canon, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, had the incredibly tough job of trying to exist as a standalone flick, whilst also trying to ensure that it made reference to prior events, foreshadowed future movies, and granted every character with enough screentime to do them proper justice. Which is another way of saying: it's tough going. So looking at how Disney seem to be approaching this new era of Star Wars movies - several "spin-off" films are reportedly in the pipeline - it's pretty obvious that the studio are looking to replicate the success of the MCU with their latest cash cow. What they don't seem to have grasped, however, is that Star Wars' secondary characters - like Yoda and Boba Fett - are popular because they are exactly that: secondary characters. Entire films based around these guys, though? Disturbance in the force!
