7. Early Test Screenings Were A Disaster
The Dark Tower trailer footage is hardly terrible. Seeing Roland load and fire in slow motion is awesome enough to inspire grown men to quit their jobs and pursue careers as post-apocalyptic cowboy-knights.
But test audiences who were treated to an early cut of the full movie weren't so enthusiastic. In fact, they were so critical that Sony reportedly considered axing Nikolaj Arcel as director and replacing him with fresh blood.
Let's add some context: the test footage shown was rough and ready with incomplete special effects, but it wasn't just the visuals the viewers complained about; word has it that they were confused by the story too.
All the special effects in the world aren't going to fix that, but maybe all of those reshoots will at the very least help...
