8 Reasons Why The Suicide Squad Just Bombed At The Box-Office

2. Rising COVID Concerns

The summer movie season got off to a promising start, with Godzilla vs. Kong ($467 million worldwide) and A Quiet Place Part II ($294 million worldwide) performing on par with - or exceeding - their predecessors, Godzilla: King Of The Monsters ($386 million worldwide) and A Quiet Place ($350 million worldwide).

But amid rising COVID concerns surrounding the delta variant, that box-office surge has fallen off over these last couple of weeks.

The numbers started to drop with Black Widow throughout July ($359 million worldwide to date), but it was Space Jam 2, Snake Eyes, and Jungle Cruise that really suffered the most, with The Suicide Squad being yet another victim of the global situation.

Fingers crossed for Free Guy - and let's hope that things improve from here.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
