8 Shocking Plot Twists Cut From Movies

7. Harry Was Supposed To The Bad Guy - Speed

Speed is one of the classic “Die Hard scenario” movies from the early nineties and featured the late, great Dennis Hopper as a villain who plants a bomb on a bus that has to stay above a certain speed. His mad bomber character was always part of the script, but in the original draft, it was revealed that Harry - the hero’s loveable partner - was the real villain.

Ed Harris was originally cast for this role, but when he backed out and Jeff Daniels replaced him the filmmakers decided this twist no longer worked. Daniels was just too likeable, and they felt the audience would have a hard time buying the reveal.

Since Hopper was already so good they also didn’t feel the need for two villains, and instead Harry is blown up halfway through, which motivates hero Keanu Reeves to get some righteous revenge.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
