8 Signs Colin Farrell Is The New Matthew McConaughey

Ironically, it was Farrell and McConaughey’s success as stars that signalled their downfall as actors. At first glance, an offer from a big studio must have seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, little did either know that it would also mean playing the same character for the next ten years.

For McConaughey, it would consistently mean playing the lovable charmer, be it amidst J. Lo planning his wedding (The Wedding Planner), searching for treasure (Fool’s Gold), living with his parents (Failure To Launch), or being haunted (Ghosts of Girlfriends Past). No matter the circumstances, we could count on Matthew to see reason and get the right girl in the end.

In Farrell’s case, he became the go-to guy for big budget crime movies. Whatever the role, if it involved crime and featured more action than character, Farrell would be there. He played intelligent rookie agents, insatiable killers and seasoned badasses but none of his performances stood out, and The Recruit, S.W.A.T., Daredevil, and Miami Vice all sucked.

For the two actors, it seemed like this was all they’d ever be, and that they’d never live up to the hype. But before it could get better, it would get so much worse.
