8 Spider-Man Movies That Almost Happened
3. Sinister Six
Perhaps we shouldn't be too hasty dubbing Sinister Six a cancelled movie because the recently-greenlit Venom could potentially place it back on the agenda at Sony.
Nevertheless, there's zero chance of us ever seeing the version of the project that was due to spin out of The Amazing Spider-Man come to fruition, so we'll crack on.
The villain-centric Sinister Six was essentially Sony Pictures' answer to The Avengers, an anti-Avengers project, if you will.
Amazing Spider-Man 2 already began laying the groundwork for the supervillain team-up extravaganza by introducing Rhino and Gustav Fiers, as well as teasing the imminent arrival of a dozen other Spider rogues.
Drew Goddard was attached to write and direct the movie, which would have been a story of redemption with a bad guy lineup that deviates from the comics.
If all had gone to plan, we would have seen this version of Sinister Six by now as its release date was pegged for November 11, 2016.
The project met its demise when the rights to Spider-Man returned to Marvel, but with Spider spinoffs back on at Sony, there's a possibility it may return in some form.
