1. Ant-Man - Edgar Wright

One of the MCU’s biggest disappointments in recent years was Edgar Wright’s departure from the Ant-Man project in 2014, the result of his inability to stick to Marvel’s infamously strict formula. Wright had been at work on the film for eight years (amidst other projects) with writing partner and Attack the Block director Joe Cornish.

Although details are murky, it was clearly creative differences, caused by Wright's famously distinctive style, that led to the failure. Wright has diplomatically stated: "I wanted to make a Marvel movie but I don’t think they really wanted to make an Edgar Wright movie".

Ultimately, the film and its upcoming sequel were directed by Peyton Reed. Directors like James Gunn and Taika Waititi have managed to retain their comic sensibilities and tick off the Marvel checklist, so it’s a shame it never worked out for Wright.
