8 Terrible Movies That Could Totally Be Saved By A Remake

6. Johnny Mnemonic

johnny-mnemonic I was about thirty pages into reading Neuromancer by William Gibson when I was struck stupid by immense cybernetic waves of deja vu. Okay, so we have the main character, who is a computer hacker trying to keep a low profile and gets approached by a woman wearing tight leather clothes and shades. She says that she needs to plug him back into the matrix, but to do so will have to take him to meet someone first. That someone is a bald black guy, who is fan of wearing leather trench coats and... Haven't we seen all of this before? Besides serving as a springboard of inspiration for the Wachowski's, William Gibson also happens to be the seminal cyberpunk sci-fi novelist. If you don't know what cyberpunk is think Blade Runner, Mad Max, and practically every other 80s sci-fi film (except Star Wars). Be that as it may the only work truly adapted from Gibson's writings into a film happens to unfortunately be Johnny Mnemonic. Everything about the movie is really cool. Johnny transports information for some really bad people by first uploading it to his brain. He is a walking external hard drive. However, the film's script, penned by Gibson himself, somehow comes across as just a little corny and extremely wooden. Needless to say it could have been better. Too bad for Gibson, who really deserves more recognition for his literary work, he's practically the Philip K. Dick of a different generation.
