4. Last Action Hero

This movie was so close to being so awesome it just makes me want to puke. The story follows a kid whose obsessed with action movies and gets a magic ticket that allows him to be sucked into the movie world where he becomes Jack Slater's (Schwarzenegger) sidekick. Together they fight cool villains, dodge laughable action flick clichés, and make a ton of sweet references to other films like Stallone taking Schwarzenegger's place in Terminator. The story was great and the movie is filled with memorable moments like Arnold's remake of Hamlet trailer where he proceeds to shoot up a bunch of knights with an UZI. The problem is that the Last Action Hero actually sucks. By the end of the movie you just want it to be over because the last thirty minutes take all the before mentioned potential and throw it down the drain. What was the problem? To be brutally honest: the kid. The movie focuses way too much on his personal journey to becoming a hero that it sacrifices a great idea for a weak seen-it-all-before storyline. So much potential...
