Our next entry explores a new family moving into their first house, but all is not as it seems. A baby that will never stop crying, a husband that is becoming more and more detached from reality, an ominous presence emanating from the attic and visions of strange creatures lurking around the hallways sees protagonist Emma slowly descend into madness.

While this may not sound like the most original premise, the claustrophobic atmosphere bursting from page to page, combined with Celine Loup's accurate recreation of the fears of new motherhood, leads to a twist that flips the entire narrative on its head. If adapted correctly, a masterful use of contrasting sound between the constant wailing of the baby and the intense silence in the therapist's office could see this become a modern classic of the horror genre.

Think David Lowery's A Ghost Story. Think of that five-minute-long pie-eating scene. Now replace that pie-eating with a baby screaming its lungs raw, and that five minutes with a good hour. If that thought alone is unnerving, then The Man Who Came Down the Attic Stairs is already doing its job.
