8 Things Batman V Superman Did Better Than Captain America: Civil War

1. It Had The Guts To Kill Off A Hero

For months leading up to Captain America 3 fans were speculating who would die; supporting characters like War Machine or Hawkeye were rumoured for an early exit while some thought it could follow the Civil War comic and kill Cap himself.

None of this came to pass in the movie, where outside of Rhodey’s injuries and some hurt feelings, everybody walked away still breathing. This felt like a cop out on the movie’s end, where the impact of the team splitting and fighting should have lead to serious, irreversible consequences - and not the superhero equivalent of schoolyard scrap.

Snyder isn’t one to back down from a fight, and when he got the chance to kill off a hero he didn’t hesitate. Sure, it didn’t have a huge amount of emotional impact since Henry Cavill has the acting range of an unbuttered slice of bread, but it was still a shocking moment and the dual funerals afterwards were surprisingly well-handled.

He’ll no doubt be back for Justice League, but at least the movie committed to the idea instead of walking right up to edge before backing down at the last second.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
