8 Things Missing From Star Wars: The Force Awakens

4. The Tale Of The Skywalker Family Lightsaber

Speaking of Maz Kanata and being pushed for time, her deferral of Han's question - namely, why in the Mustafar do you have Luke's lightsaber - seems like it was due to time constraints, rather than any desire to preserve Abrams' favourite mystery-in-a-box trope - literally, this time.

It was an extremely frustrating gloss-over of something that might not necessarily be the most important facet of the mythology, but would damn well make for an interesting tale.

At the very least, a little sit-down story could have provided some sort of parable or lesson for Rey to absorb; it could have been a way to elucidate more for both her and us, what exactly her role is within the context of the story, but as it stands it feels like a rug-brushing maneuvers which annoys more than it intrigues.

If they found time to explain how many times the Millennium Falcon changed hands, then they should have taken a moment to regale us with the tale of Luke's 'saber finding its way into a box in a basement in a castle on a planet we've never heard of.
