3. More Illumination On Supreme Leader Snoke
In terms of The Force Awakens being a spiritual successor to A New Hope (almost beat for beat), it makes sense that the big bad would remain largely in the shadows. In fact, we get more of Snoke than we do of Palpatine in the first Star Wars. Regardless, we still aren't given enough info about Snoke to warrant his inclusion in this film at a basic level. It's all well and good that we get a couple of dialogue scenes with his giant hologram, but it would have been nice to have slightly more context. Because, really, we're not given much reason to discern why exactly his subordinates are so terrified of him. He's a hologram in a chair. What makes him a Supreme Leader? Is he Sith (probably not) or merely Force-sensitive? Did he found the First Order? Does he have a boss? These are, of course, all pieces of information that are likely to be revealed in Episodes VIII and IX. While it's fine to leave an air of mystery surrounding facets of this story for further instalments in the series, I would argue that details regarding Snoke are
too vague. As it stands, all we have is a shoddy mo-cap hologram of a villain who really doesn't seem that threatening, were it not for the fact that his underlings - Hux and Ren - seem to prefer to wear their brown pants when they're before him.
