8 Times Actors Embarrassingly Campaigned For A Huge Movie Role
3. Donald Glover - Spider-Man
Back in the heady days of 2010 the hunt was on for the new Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man, with a shortlist that included Logan Lerman, Anton Yelchin and Jamie Bell. Of course fans had their own opinions about who it should be too, and when someone threw Donald Glover’s name into the ring the internet briefly went crazy.
In addition to being about the right age and basically kind of perfect for it, it also kicked off a spirited debate about colour blind casting. Glover himself basically nerded out over the idea, and had no trouble fanning the flames in the hopes it would land him, at least, an audition with Sony.
Despite the campaign being quite visible the role eventually went to Andrew Garfield, and the rest is history. When the role was being recast yet again people asked Glover about the possibility, where he seemed much more realistic about his chances; aka he knew it wasn't going to happen. He did get to briefly voice Miles Morales in the Ultimate Spider-Man show in 2014, so the campaign wasn’t a total bust.
