8 Top Euro Cult Actors

5. Al Cliver

Al Cliver Al Cliver - aka Pierluigi Conti - is an Italian born actor who was integral to the Euro Cult scene , starring in many genre classics and working closely alongside Jess Franco and Lucio Fulci - two of the most celebrated Euro Cult directors. He certainly stuck with Lucio Fulci to the bitter end, even after the director took a huge dip in form. Cliver starred in the sub-par Ghosts of Sodom and House of Clocks - two instantly forgettable Fulci films. However, Cliver was lucky to work with the great man in his prime - appearing in Zombie Flesh Eaters in a meaty role and also The Beyond. These two films are important not just in the Euro Cult domain, they are integral to the horror genre as a whole. Cliver also starred in a couple of Jess Franco's sleaze epics including Devil Hunter (which I believe was deemed a Video Nasty) and White Cannibal Queen. Both films are not the best cannibal movies out there, but Cliver does the best he can with the material and throws in decent performances. Cliver is underappreciated in the world of Euro Cult cinema. His name isn't necessary one that flies off the top of your head whenever you think of cult European movies, but he has a pretty proficient oeuvre including some seminal classics of the golden era.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
