6. Morpheus - The Matrix

Morpheus is the epitome of badass. He's smart, great at fighting, and he never speaks unless he knows what he's going to say will sound cool. And yet, despite the fact that he manages to fulfill both his own and Neo's destinies over the course of
The Matrix trilogy, he makes one incredibly dumb movie that renders the integrity of his character to practically zero. It's the ultimate non-Morpheus move, because you can't imagine Morpheus, oh, I don't know, putting his life's work in jeopardy for absolutely no reason, can you? He totally does, though. There's a scene about half an hour into the first movie where Morpheus calls Neo (after he's had his mouth sewn shut in that somewhat hilarious through rather disturbing scene) in which he puts everything he's learned and acquired about Neo at risk, whilst - at the same time- exposes him to the enemy whilst making an effort to prevent that. Here's what Morpheus says over the phone: "This line is tapped, so I must be brief. They got to you first, but they've underestimated how important you are. If they knew what I know, you'd probably be dead." Uh... what? Why in God's good name would you say
that over the phone if you knew it was tapped? The call is entirely pointless, and makes no sense because he's giving out the exact information he's calling Neo to keep secret: Morpheus would never be that dumb. But screenwriters can be, I guess. Going on that singular moment alone, Morpheus deserves every bad thing that comes his way for the rest of the movie and its sequels.
