8 Unintentionally Hilarious Horror Movie Endings

2. I’m Not Your Mommy! - Orphan

Malignant movie
Warner Bros. Pictures

Orphan (2009) has several laughable moments scattered within it, but it's Esther death scene that really provides a belly chuckle when it absolutely was not supposed to.

You really need to see this film in order to appreciate it in its entirety, and to experience the chuckles that accompany it. The audience meets the Coleman family who adopt young Esther from an orphanage in their local town. It doesn't take long for the family to realise there is something not quite right with Esther.

Once the large twist of the family is revealed, which in its own right is a laughable concept, a standoff between the family and Esther plays out. Eventually, Esther and the family's matriarch, Kate, find themselves on a large frozen pond near their home. After attempting to kill Kate, Esther pleads with her 'mother' to help her as the ice breaks beneath her, while also holding a knife behind her back. Kate, having been suspicious of Esther from the get-go, rebuffs her cry for help while saying "I'm not your f*cking mommy!" and kicks her in the jaw, breaking her neck upon impact.

The unexpected turn of Kate brutally killing Esther is what provides the laugh factor in this sequence, as her maternal nature throughout the film acts as a fantastic contrast to this moment of primal murder. Even down to the graphics of Esther's neck breaking, the whole scenario that unfolds is a rib-tickling one to say the least!
