The people over at 20th Century Fox really just seem like they don't know what to do with the X-Men.

Besides the timeline not making any sense (how the hell does the 'Wolverine movie' timeline sync up with the rest? How does James McAvoy's Prof. X age into Patrick Stewart's so quickly? Didn't Xavier die at the end of The Last Stand?), we recently heard that the studio plans to "reconfigure" the series with the next instalment... but wasn't that the point of X-Men: Apocalypse? To introduce a new generation of heroes and move forward?

And all this adds up to a rather concerning forthcoming production. If the very people in charge of the franchise seem confused, how can we have any confidence in them? X-Men: Apocalypse certainly didn't help matters, conveying the feel that the series has lost its way, and it really seems like the folks who should be in charge haven't got a clue how to handle the property.

On top of all this, Fox are losing star man Hugh Jackman after next year's Logan, and Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy have reached the end of their three-picture deals. With no major stars currently attached, a messy previous instalment and a completely butchered timeline, you'd be forgiven if you weren't wholly optimistic about the X-Men's future.
