8 "Upcoming" Superhero Movies That Will Never Actually Happen

4. X-Force

The Film: A movie based on the X-Force comics, which features a team of mutants similar to (and often crossing-over with) the X-Men, although they take a much more hardline and militant approach to things. Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) is set to write and direct the film. Why It Won't Happen: Although it was initially scheduled for a 2017 release, not a lot has been heard about the film, so that doesn't seem like an achievable target for a start. Fox have enjoyed a lot of success with their X-Men franchise, especially in recent years with First Class and Days of Future Past, and that's only set to continue with Apocalypse, Deadpool, and Gambit all taking place within the same shared universe. However, the failure of Fantastic Four may just give them pause, and X-Force, which is a far less mainstream comic, and doesn't have the swell of fan support behind it that something like Deadpool has enjoyed, will presumably be put on the back-burner until they know the success of those films. That in itself is a double-edged sword, as if they fail, it won't happen, and if they succeed, the immediate focus will turn to sequels. Expect talk of X-Force to remain, but it appears destined to be a film that remains in development hell, never to actually make it to theatres as it's overlooked for more lucrative propositions.
