8 "Upcoming" Superhero Movies That Will Never Actually Happen

5. Hellboy 3

The Film: The third film in Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy trilogy, based on the de-horned demon from hell who's actually a good guy, played by Ron Perlman. This would be a follow-up to Hellboy II: The Golden Army, which was released back in 2008. Why It Won't Happen: Del Toro and Perlman both keep talking about it, but there's very little in terms of getting close to yelling 'action!' on this one. It's been seven years since the latest film, and would mean at least a decade had passed by the time they could get it into theatres. Del Toro often seems so busy being attached to various projects, and producing countless others, that a lot of the films he intends on directing never actually come to fruition, such as his long ill-fated attempts at bringing H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness to the big-screen. With Crimson Peak due for release later this year, and countless other projects in various stages of development (RIP Pacific Rim 2) that again moves us further away from a potential third Hellboy instalment. The director and his star may want it to happen, and keep saying that they think it will, be for as long as it's just talk and time keeps passing by, the less likely it seems.
