8 Ways Avengers: Infinity War Proves Marvel Have Learnt From Their Mistakes

1. There Are Genuine Stakes

As touched upon in the previous entry, the sense of dread running throughout the entirety of Infinity War is palpable. Although we've been told countless times in previous movies that the world is on the verge of blowing up or your favourite heroes are in danger, it never really felt like it. Here though, you believe it.

Not only are they in danger of dying, but Thanos' world-ending plot is actually followed through on. Consequently, you can feel the desperation that comes with trying to stop him, especially when he acquires another Infinity Stone and gets one step closer to completing his plan. In other movies you know the villain is never really going to succeed, but here you totally buy it.

More importantly though, there are smaller stakes at play. Spidey being taken to an alien land impacts his relationship with father-figure Tony Stark, and the impending end of the world also increases the tension between the likes of Star Lord and Gamora, Vision and Scarlett Witch, and Cap and Bucky.

Fans are used to the status quo being returned to by the end of a movie, but Infinity War smashes that expectation in the opening minutes and drags it through the mud for the next two hours.
