8 Ways Avengers: Infinity War Proves Marvel Have Learnt From Their Mistakes

2. The "Villain Problem" Has Been Solved

Although critics have been proclaiming that Marvel have solved their "villain problem" just about every single year since Avengers: Age of Ultron, with Infinity War Marvel have, for real, solved their villain problem.

They had the odds stacked against them, too, because so far Thanos has pretty much been a big purple guy too lazy to get out his chair and actually do any dirty work. That previous depiction is eradicated from the opening minute though, as the Russos have him literally tower over other characters and slap them around in some surprisingly visceral beatdowns.

There's a real sense of unpredictable dread in every scene he's in, with the knowledge that he could kill any character he goes up against at any time. More than nailing the sense of peril that's been missing from other flicks though, Thanos has a surprising amount of depth to him. You understand his mad, ridiculous plan to destroy half the galaxy, and his relationship with Gamora makes him seem like more than just a tyrant.

He's the MVP of Infinity War, and has set the bar for every villain going forward.
