8 Worst And Most Desperate Movie Publicity Stunts Ever

1. M Night Shymalan’s “Documentary” – The Village

The Village was the first sign of a crack in M Night Shyamalan's armour. He’d been considered the next Spielberg up to that point, but The Village's deathly dull pacing and appalling final twist showed he wasn’t unstoppable. Lady In The Water, The Happening and The Last Airbender would add more nails to the coffin.

The Village’s reputation wasn’t helped thanks to a weird, ego stroking fake documentary about the director himself. Produced alongside the main movie for the Sci-Fi channel, the film interviewed Shyamalan and others during the making of The Village, and claimed to prove the director was really in touch with the supernatural and was potentially dangerous.

The doc wasn’t half-assing it either since it gave him an elaborate fake back-story and roped the likes of Johnny Depp and Adrian Brody in for interviews. Everyone involved with it tried to keep a straight face, but it was quickly discovered to be fake and everyone got angry with the director for such an attention seeking stunt.

Still, it was better than the actual movie.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
