9 Actors Who Overstayed Their Welcome In Roles
7. Pierce Brosnan - James Bond
When Brosnan began his stint in the role of 007, he was an absolute breath of fresh air. Following the increasing lunacy of the prior iterations, Brosnan burst onto the scene in the excellent GoldenEye. It was a blast of a film that took a deeper look at Bond's place in modern society and Brosnan was the perfect man for the role. His performance was suave, sophisticated, and added some much-appreciated depth to the role. He was everything Bond fans had been asking for and more.
Which is exactly why it hurt so bad to see him fall so far, so quickly.
Within the span of seven years, we had gone from Brosnan's near-perfect incarnation of the character to a befuddled, ridiculous portrayal that was little more than an embodiment of everything wrong with Bond. Die Another Day was a genuinely awful Bond film that somehow forgot everything that GoldenEye had taught the producers about how to make a relevant Bond film.
Instead, it overdosed on poorly executed CGI and laughable action sequences, all anchored by a Brosnan who seemed utterly lost in the madness.
It was the least likable he had ever been in the role and was the entire reason the franchise was forced to hit reboot.
