9 Actors Who Overstayed Their Welcome In Roles
6. Arnold Schwarzenegger - T-800
The original Terminator film may not have offered Schwarzenegger the juiciest of roles, but it was a perfect fit for his acting potential at the time. A cold, lifeless killer who simply had to be imposing.
This is exactly what made his subsequent performance in T2 such a revelation. It featured Arnold truly emoting and delivering a genuinely poignant take on a machine learning what it is to be human. It showcased a newfound sense of depth and range to Arnold's work that had not been there previously, while also paving the way for the next few decades of his acting career.
Sadly, when the time came for Arnold to reprise the role in the third film, he was in lesser hands. Without Cameron to guide him, Arnold's role was relegated to little more than one-liners and bad puns. Hardly even being given an arc to embody, Arnold was essentially just spinning his wheels this time around as the T-800 and it never came close to reaching the heights of his prior work.
Then things got even worse. While Arnold skipped out on appearing in the fourth installment as anything other than a CGI cameo, he made his 'triumphant' return to the franchise with Genisys. Here, he just gave a lazier and more tired version of his performance from the third film, once again lacking anything vaguely resembling emotional depth.
