9 Actors Who Overstayed Their Welcome In Roles
4. Bruce Willis - John McClane
It may be hard to remember now, but there was a time when Bruce Willis was one of the biggest action stars in the world. He wasn't always someone who would seemingly do literally any straight-to-DVD film for a paycheck, his name being attached to a film used to genuinely mean something because he was truly wonderful.
One need look no further than Willis' star-making turn as John McClane in the original Die Hard to see precisely why. His performance was funny, moving, committed, and all-around great. He sold the action sequences in a way that few were capable of, while also keeping audiences invested in his character through the use of excellent comedic timing and palpable heart.
Sadly, these staples of Willis' career have been all-but-lost in his modern roles.
His latest turn as John McClane, in A Good Day To Die Hard, was distinctly lacking everything that once made the character so special and endearing. Instead, he was just another action hero doing some action sequences and then occasionally making a bad joke. It was the same routine, just without any of the energy or passion.
The franchise is seemingly moving ahead with another installment, and though we wouldn't put it past Willis to prove us all wrong and deliver a game-changer of a performance, it may be too late.
