9 Actors You Didn’t Know Were In Movies
2. Val Kilmer In True Romance
In True Romance, Christian Slater's Clarence Worley spends so much of the movie battling with his own emotions. And one person who is there to guide Clarence at times, is The Mentor.
Of course, while the gold suit-adorned manifestation is officially known as The Mentor in the film's credits, it's clearly intended to be Elvis Presley. What many viewers may have missed out on, is that this faux Elvis is played by Val Kilmer.
Kilmer may be best known for his turns in Top Gun, Willow, and Batman Forever, yet two years prior to True Romance's 1993 release, the actor put in likely the best performance of his career. That was as the iconic Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone's The Doors.
Jumping ahead to True Romance, and Val took on the role of the legendary King - even if his appearance was a fleeting one, largely filmed out of focus, and never once do we see his full face on screen. Despite being minimal, this role was certainly a key one in True Romance, for The Mentor served the purpose of being Clarence's conscious.
