9 Awesome Remakes Of Terrible Movies

2. Dredd

Judge Dredd
Buena Vista Pictures / Lionsgate

Judge Dredd is the iconic lawman from the pages of 2000 AD, who is judge, jury and executioner wrapped into one very scary package. He executes more often than not, and he never, EVER removes his helmet.

The Original: So of course when America got their mitts on him they gave him a comedy sidekick, turned him into a meathead action hero and removed the satire, the dark comedy and the helmet.

The film has some impressive production design and a couple of fun setpieces, but it also has a lot of Rob Schneider, which is too steep a price to pay.

The Remake: The remake came around in 2012 to redeem the Judge; the tone was gritty, the character was dark and the helmet reminded on the entire time.

The film had a claustrophobic John Carpenter tone, and a moody soundtrack to go with it. Sadly the film didn’t do well at the box office, so the chances of seeing Karl Urban’s chin going on another adventure look bleak.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
