9 Awesome Remakes Of Terrible Movies

1. Casino Royale

Casino Royale
Columbia Pictures / MGM

Casino Royale was the first James Bond novel, but it took a surprisingly long time for it to get a proper adaptation. It first adapted for an obscure one hour TV special in 1954, with actor Barry Nelson portraying an American agent called Jimmy Bond.

The Original: Author Ian Fleming then sold the story rights to a producer in 1955, who wasn’t able to get a film version going. After Eon had huge success with their own Bond series, the rights owners decided to make a spoof of Casino Royale instead.

This resulted in an almighty mess filled with terrible comedy, an incoherent plot and despite featuring a starry cast (Peter Sellers, Orson Welles, Woody Allen) the performances are poor. The production was also messy, with Sellers quitting halfway through and no less than five directors worked on it.

The Remake: When Sony got the rights to Casino Royale they decided to use it as a launch point for a rebooted series, and Daniel Craig was chosen to play Bond. It’s (arguably) the best of the Craig era, Eva Green is the all-time greatest Bond girl and it has a surprising amount of heart to go along with the setpieces.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
