Yes, it contains some of the usual tropes but to take this as anything other than a comedy would do a disservice to the excellent performances of all involved.

Each member of the cast steps up to the plate and knocks it out of the park but special praise has to go to Godfrey Cambridge and Raymond St. Jacques.

As Gravedigger Jones and Coffin Ed Johnson, these two fast talking, wise cracking, fist swinging detectives are a riot from the first moment to the last.

Whether they're making their long suffering Captain's life miserable or conning the local Mob Boss out of his money, Gravedigger and Coffin Ed are worth the price of admission alone.
