As much as the James Bond movies might seem like well-oiled blockbuster machines, the spy romps have a curious history of trouble right from the jump.

While Quantum of Solace famously saw Daniel Craig and director Marc Forster re-writing the movie during shooting due to an ongoing Writers Guild Strike, at least in that case there was a clear connect between the filmmaker and the material.

That sadly wasn't true on the Pierce Brosnan-starring Tomorrow Never Dies, which started shooting without a script anywhere close to finished.

Legend dictates that various cast members were arguing with one another as a result, and neither Jonathan Pryce nor Teri Hatcher were happy with their roles as written.

From day one, director Roger Spottiswoode bristled with writer Bruce Feirstein, as continued throughout production. An anonymous crew member said, "All the happiness and teamwork which is the hallmark of Bond has disappeared completely."

Given that the film started without a clear creative through-line, it's honestly pretty impressive that the end result is so cohesive. Not a great Bond film, but decent enough.
