9 Famous Screen Actors Who Were More Successful As Voice Artists

1. Mark Hamill

Despite Mark Hamill's breakthrough success as an actor in the late seventies and early eighties as Luke Skywalker, the iconic protagonist of the original Star Wars trilogy, Hamill would later find it difficult to secure traditional acting roles in other films due to his association with the Star Wars franchise. After the release of Return of the Jedi, largely due to being typecast as Luke Skywalker, Hamill would be mainly secluded to appearing in forgettable science fiction films like Slipstream, The Guyver, and Time Runner, all of which garnered mixed or negative reviews from critics and audiences alike. In response to this stall in his acting career, Hamill would switch his focus from traditional acting roles to voice work.

Becoming almost exclusively a voice actor, Hamill has taken hundreds of voice acting roles in animated films, shows, and video games, and has become one of the most prestigious and talented voice actors of all time. Among his vast and wide-ranging filmography, Hamill’s most notable voice work would include his two-decade long portrayal of DC Comics’ the Joker, Fire Lord Ozai in Avatar: The Last Airbender, and his extensive voice work in the heavy metal animated series Metalocalypse.

For his portrayal of the Joker in the Batman: Animated Series, as well as in the Batman Arkham video game trilogy, Hamill was given awards and award nominations from many different publications. Hamill would also be nominated for three Annie Awards, and even an Emmy for his performance as Darth Bane in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
